"For I helped the poor in their need and the orphans who had no one to help them.  I helped those who had lost hope, and they blessed me.  And I caused the widows hearts to sing for joy.  All I did was just and honest.  Righteousness covered me like a robe, and I wore justice like a turban.  I served as eyes for the blind and feet for the lame.  I was a father to the poor and made sure that even strangers had a fair trail.  I broke the jaws of godless oppressors and made them release their victims."

Job 29:12-17

Our Mission Statement
Operation Care is a Christian Ministry that seeks to provide for the physical, spiritual,
emotional, and social well-being of people in need in a loving, compassionate
environment in the name of Jesus Christ.

Our Services

Women's Shelter

We offer emergency housing to women and children who are homeless due to eviction, job loss, divorce or those escaping abuse.  We make every effort to get residents enrolled into helpful programs offered by other agencies such as counseling, job placement and financial self-sufficiency.  Hundreds of moms and children have the comfort and support needed at difficult times in their lives through our Women's Shelter service.

Transitional Housing

Operation Care's transitional housing provides the "next step" to those re-entering standard housing.  Our residents pay reduced rent and become accountable for their finances and we assist them on their journey to becoming self-sufficient again.  We believe that our transitional housing program has helped those who could have become completely homeless!

Encore Shop

Our Encore shop is open to the public for purchases of donated items.  Proceeds from sales help fund other services that we offer.  Qualifying families completing a quick basic application receive items for free.  Families that do not qualify for free items, but still need to stretch their family household budget, can purchase inexpensive clothing and household items.  We also provide basic necessities such as food, laundry detergent, soap, shampoo, toothpaste, etc.  This program services over 6,000 families annually.

Mercy Medical Clinic

We are a Christ-centered, state-licensed medical clinic.  We are members of the National Association of Free Clinics and staffed with volunteer medical providers, nurses, pastoral caregivers, Spanish interpreters, and office personnel.  Our mission is to provide compassionate medical care to the uninsured and financially disadvantaged.  Our patient load is currently at capacity.  However, we are trying to add new patients as space becomes available and more volunteer providers are recruited.  The wait time for the initial appointment for new qualified patients is approximately 6 weeks.  Patient must live in Shelby County (our primary focus), Jefferson, Henry, or Spencer Counties.  Patients must not have any type of health insurance or medical coverage and demonstrate financial need.  Proof of income of all adults residing in the home must be provided.

The clinic is open five days per week (Monday-Thursday and several Saturday mornings each month).  Patients are seen by appointment only.  In 2010, Mercy Medical had 7,348 patient visits.  Patients are asked for a $10 co-pay when they see a provider and to cover the costs of the labs that are ordered (most common lab tests cost about $5 each).  At Mercy Medical, our goal for each patient is that they both body and should be nourished and healthy.

If you would like to apply to become a patient and believe that you meet the above qualifications, please click here to download the New Patient Application.  Español:  Solicitud para pacientes nuevos, haga clic aquí.
